Housing Intact

One of the odd things is looking at antique bathroom light fixtures.

I try to imagine what they would like to be there.

Of course it is nice to go out to some of the places where the houses are still intact with the furniture. There is a great amount of beauty that is there.

Remember to tour the old and intact houses when you can find them.

One of the nice things that we have in this world is of course heated mattress pads. I cannot imagine living in upper Midwest of the United States without really warm stuff

I really always wonder about, Little House on the Prarie. The book in particular is The Lang Winter. It is the one that I really remember.

History and Today

One of the odd things about 21st cent students is the view of the world and that of history. I have to try to convince students that the world has not awlays been this way. After all we are the first generation with diet pills and exercise equipment.
I mean what is up with that? I ma just not so sure.

I always laugh at some things.



We often talk about non-viloence as a method without ever thinking of the outcomes or potential silliness that we start. I am not advocating hitting people in any way shape or form.

Still I wonder how far we have come that it is ok to make fun Ghandi. After all let's be honest Ghandi did not need fat burner reviews to help him lose weight. I often wonder if he were alive today would he write a diet book.

Imagine

This week is the week I first go my very first auto insurance. It was exactly 2 days after John Lennon was shot. Which for me was rather tramatic. IT is prior to my worst birthday ever. My 16th. 1980 was such a bizarre year. Everyone getting shot.

The cap was of course John Lennon. I was depressed for days afterward. He had just released my favorite half-album. Which was of course included Starting Over, Oh Yoko, and Watching The Wheels.

Lincoln as Dictator?

I have been reading some of DiLorenzo's work on Lincoln. While Lincoln was not into Indians he had his hand in many other items he should not have. DiLorenzo had a debate with another chap on whether Lincoln was a friend or foe. DiLorenzo of course said he was foe. The transcript of the debate is here.

It is worth reading. DiLorenzo makes the argument that Lincoln was a dictator and not a great president. He lays out nine reasons:

1. The illegal suspension of the writ of habeous corpus on his own.
2. He shut down more than 300 opposition newspapers.
3. He started a war without congressional approval.
4. He confiscated firearms in the border states.
5. Lincoln micro-managed the waging of war on civilians for four long years.
6. All telegraph communication was censored.
7. He confiscated private property.
8. He arrested his detractors.
9. He rigged Northern elections.

Go see his debate ad he lays out the debate in an excellent format. BTW if George Bush had done half of this, he would have been kicked out of office.

This date looks like potential fun. Allegedly, this is the day the world is going to end. Kinda funny when you look at all this stuff one has to really wonder. There is a ton o' evidance on this stuff.

If everything that people want we may have a lack of indoor lighting on that date. Well I hope that we have it does not.

The Mayan's calender ends on that date. As well as a few other reasons. I find the while thing to be rather amusing. We have had many dates and times people have said that it is the end of the world. So should this one be any differnet. I think not.

The Raw Deal

FDR and Obama. I know the comparisons are being made. Some of the comparisons are to be made so let me whip out my laptop memory and let you know.

1. FDR wanted the economy to be as bad as it can get, so he looks better. Obama is doing nothing to help the economy. He could say that he is not raising taxes within in the first two years. Bamm econ and stock market will recover.


2. You have to place the raw deal into terms of a wartime economy. So much is able to be done becasue the sheeple will want something that makes the sheeple happy.

That Time

Well now that the elections are over it is time for the Orlando vacations for those who can go. Of course I have not really looked at the news for a few days.

Of course who knows what the future will hold. I can almost assure that he will not be a centrist in leadership. He has to many radical friends and learning.

Personally I am scared. And I mean really scared. Maybe I should go down to Orlando really really soon.

the IRA

I was doing some reading on the IRA and how they related. I was surprised to see some orovo in use.

The IRA had some serious problems. There ere many splits in the IRA. It almost seems that the splits and anger never survived. I am really shocked at how many people changed the differing positions. The people would seem to argue back and forth on what freedom means.

Of course one of the odd things, there have been many cease fires. Of course I wonder how many times a bomb has been used to end the cease fire.

Calling

I recently purchased an unlocked cell phones to use. It was so nice to use one. Why? Becuase I got what I wanted with the my current plan and my Tmobile phone was not so good.

Overall it is a good idea. I would have like to have had a Treo but they only had the crackberries when I did my plan. Funny how we complain in America about not having snack food or bad phones.

More Tudors

I just watched the episode of the Tudors that had the sweating death. We are not to sure what it was and why people were sick.

One of the hard things is the amount of pills that are taken. Most did not work. I wonder what Henry would do today? Tons of diet pill and other such items.

I mean he did so much for what did not work, what would he do if something did work.

In the past we had buttons

In the past we had really good buttons. Most of the buttons would last and would become collector items. Now we have funny t-shirts that well . . . do not stand the test of time.

I love the buttons, I have been tempted to wear a few during this election season. However with the hostilities out there, it is hard to do. I mean if I wear the wrong button someone will . . . be really mad. and then yell at me.

FDR Again

I have been thinking of FDR again. We have lived with his social polocies for 70 years. The bad news is that they are a failure. Everything that wanted to be done, well did not get done. Yes some stuff did get done. However, he prolonged the government takeover and the depression. He also prolonged the war.

Holiday

We all have holiday appetizers that we like to serve. This year we are going to do out little party again.

Of course it is always a bog to-do with little done in the long run. Personally, I do not like it. Lots of poeple, lots of cleaning, lots of stuff. And ususally I already know the food, so nothing fun to eat. Now going to them . . . mmmmm . . . I like that.

Thoughts on Shoes

Manolo Blahnik for all his fashion designs and hits from Carrie in the show Sex and the City, started from a very humble start.

He grew up of all places, on a banana plantation. I wonder how that affected his designs. The good news, is he zigged when other zagged and with a 2000 pound loan started designing shoes for Runway Models.

Looking Backwards.

I am not a fan of employment screening that are going on these days.

There are much more garbage happening when private companies are doing what the govenremnt does and yet with no oversight. I realize there is a need to know what is going on in a past. However, people should be allowed to bury certian things. Now people cannot. Credit checks are done and more.

I do not mind ciminal checks. Of course the bad news is that most people with a minor infraction are never hired. Still yet a better reason to stay out of trouble.

The Ancient Dream

MLK was often considered to be communist. However, in my mind, I think that he believed in America. That America is a better place anywehre else than anywhere else. Yes, we have our problems. Yes we had a problem with the DEL of racism and other such -isms.

Even though he was conisdered a communist by his detractors, I have never thought he was. Now that we have increased the disparity in America with 1Trillion in new inflation. We need someone to call us back.

Cuba and Cars

One of the great things about history is living histroy. Esp when it comes to Detroit. I cannot wait for Cuba to be opened as it will open tons of old cars for sale. Of course if the Cubans are smart they will not part with their cars. Of course as usually finding old car parts may be hard. Sometimes you need to be able to fabricate some of the parts.

Bail out problems

Can we afford this bailout. Washington DC really needs some diet pills when it comes to spending.

Congress needs to investigate themselves on this whole fannie and freddie issue. Of course that will never happen. The rich #%*#($*#) who are in congress will never look at themselves.

Congress hold hearings and find out what happened.

Can we trust congress

Well with this whole election going on, the health plans is of course another real issue.

Obama wants to take over all the health care system. I know this is not news or shocking realization of the truth.

Question: Do you want the people (congress dems and reps) who are responsible for the economic problems going on to be in charge of health care.

If you say yes:

Do you want the same people who have screwed up social security working on health care and being in charge of that . . .

If you say yes,

You are a socialist, please move to france.

Flashing back and going forward

I have always wondered what we do with some of the wonderful unique baby gifts that I should like to give.

I mean I always like something that is really cool. Nothing ever makes that much sense. I mean for realwhat am I supposed to do.

Of course as I sit here i am watching the orginal Terminator movie. Talk about a an odd flashback.

Those old acne treatment commercials are really funny. As a matter of fact all those old commercials are fun. Youtube has so many old commercials are online.

I am amazed at how many of the old ones are so funny. You really need to go out and look at it. It will makelife a little more fun.

In the Sand

I am sure there are many items out there that are going to be out there in many years. Think about all the junk that we find from the finds that we have. As an example you take an Oakley watches and bury it in the sand.

In 200 years the watch becomes priceless when it is found in the sand.

Getting Pictures Home

One thing that is really good about going on historical trips these days . . . you do not have to take tons of rolls of film and hope like heck they come out.

Now we can buy all kinds of various micro sd or memory sticks for almost nothing and take picts and if we need to send them back home.

When I travel, I will take a stack of memory cards with me. This way I can offload on to computer and send the orginals back via the mail. Hopefully one will get there and I will have my pictures.

I am a long time fan of Baseball. I have finally gotton around to watching Ken Burns Baseball. What a great series. I still love going to the ball park. I take no cell phones, no ipods, no modern furniture. It is a time to enjoy the game.

Finding Happiness

What amamzes me . . . I have a student who decided that she wanted to borrow a text book and start reading about history. I allowed her to and she has gone crazy reading.

She has started coming up with historical referances. Amazing what happens when a love of something starts.

I mean if you love Lipovox you may lose weight.

Whatever you put yourself into that is important to you.

Real Discrimination

Amazing how religious discrimination is free and open in America. The smaller the sect the greater freedom of discrimination. A small group of Messianic Jews who happen to be in prison are denied Kosher food that is avalible to other Jews.

With the STATE workers in gold cufflinks make religious validity choices are just horrid.

The STATE has no right to make a decisicion on the validity of a person's religious freedom.

If there were no kosher meals (or any other religious meals) offered then this is a none issue. However, since there is a meal done this is the state establishing a religion.

The State of Ohio need to stop showing bias.

Snacker

I love working as a history teacher. Of course where I work I am teaching several classes at one time. Just in one class at the same time.

Almost need to have some Phentermine so I will not feel like eating.

The worst thing I can is start snacking. As snacking is never good. of course i am writing this as I pop a jelly bean in my mouth.

Learning From the Past

I always like going on ebay. There are many great things that are for sale that one cannot get anywhere else.

I was able to buy some authentic civil war newspapers. These are great to read through. A was motivated to look for such things, because a friend had a paper from the day after John Wilkes Booth was hung.

IT is always amazing at how much you can learn.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch, CHANGES

I am always wondering how things have progressed.When we look at social history, we have to include the Internet. I used to have a friend who made lots of money as a travel agent. Now all anyone has to do is type in flight deals and bamm they are their own travel agent.

The only time I used a travel agent was in the Army and that was becasue I had to. I mean I was forced to.

However, I wonder about places like book sellers. Look at Amazon, as the prime example, anyone can sell a used book. As long as you are willing to pay 3.95 shipping, it is yours.

At the table

The other day, I was sitting out side on some patio furniture eating, and a local was on the next table. He was telling me of all the local items.

What really got him going was when I actually showed an intrest. I tried to encourage him to write down the stories. He said that he would think about it.

Always kind of an odd thing. We need to preserve as much of the oral history as we can.

A simple bedroom

I talked before about family history. I was given a crib and we added some nice baby bedding for a comfy crib.


As it turns out my daughter was the fourth generation to sleep in that bed. I was then told about great grandfather who built the crib. I was amazed with the stories that followed that crib.


Simple items can be so amazing.

Wagon Crossings

I was looking out through my exterior shutters and wondered what was it like really crossing the open prairie.

I look at all the little hills, the little run off, the little wannabe lakes that form after rain.

The rain just changes all kinds of little things. Things that would be hard to go over on a horse drawn wagon.

One of my favorite pictures I have is when I was in France. I went into Notre Dame. Some childeren were lighting devotional candles.

These childern were so nice and fervent. It is still after all these years one of my favorite pictures. I will upload a copy in the near future.

I am looking at the past to the depression and then today with the futures broker and gasoline.

People are talking about those who speculate on oil and raising the price.

The Fabric of a Story

One of the intresting things I have found in my search of good stories is to look to family Jewlery. Stories are based down with the family and neckleaces. These family stories are part of the fabric of America.

I would suggest that you write down all the family stories of people who have gone before you. This way they are preserved.

Forward Moving

Having employment as a historian is sometimes hard. The usual role for a historian is to teach. There are very few jobs for historians. Usually jobs for actual historians are hard to come by.

So this is the high time for historians to be looking forward to new work and new jobs. If you are looking for employment I hope that you find a good job real soon.

Sitting in my corner of history I look out and wonder about things like the buses that are used by presidnetal hopefuls. There should be really nice bus for sale from the campaingns. I always wondered if those would be worth anything. It would seem like they should be.

This Election Cycle

I still look at this election cycle and wonder. you have the Patek Obama. I mean Patak but you know.

And the Hil-Bil.


Obama scares me to no end. This Tuesday we vote (finally) and alas who to vote for. Both people scare me.

The deciding factor for me is the people who are around this canidates. One side, Obama, hates America.


For all her faults, I do not question Hillary's patrotism or love of country.

Obama will not wear a flag pin. He pastor for over 20 years clearly hates America. He is good friends with a terrorist. He wife hated America till this year, just in time for election.

The vote has to go to Hil-Bil.

Magazines

I was looking at old magazines the other day. I love the old magazines. The ads are just wonderful even with the car parts stuff.

What gets me is the articles. They are long, wordy without much in the way of pictures. No wonder we have to have so many magazines today. That we get to have about a similar amount of words published.

But then we have the internet.

Reading

I love history to no end. I usually read several books a month.

After watching the Adams series on HBO, I am in real need to read the book. I read the 1776 book by the same author. I have the Trueman book and have not yet had the time to read it. Though I do have the teddy roosovelt book on tape (well CD and now MP3).


Read McCollough and you will find history to be great.

I had forgotten that Betty Ford did her drug rehab centers.

I know that they have been the butt of jokes for many years. However, she has really do ne some good and cool things.

Remembering History

One odd thing about teaching history is teaching things you have lived through. I was watching YouTube and some of the funny commercials.

The reason for this was I was teaching on the energy crisis in 1979.

So I was watching old comercials on youtube from the 1970s. There were some really lame one esp. on the old clearsil acne treatments. did we really watch these comercial? I mean, I really hope we did not.

Washington Slept Here

I like when I go through historical places. What I found really was the mattress in the bed. These beds seem really small. I saw one that I did not think looked rather not comfey.

Of course after watching the John Adams miniseries, I was amazed at how nice people were to each other. There was dignity that I would love to see again. A certain amount of formality.

A Good Find

As life turns one of my aunts has an old and quite antique baby cribs in her old storage.

Since I am to a degree an authority on 'old' stuff, I was called in and low and behold she has a French Crib that must be 200 years old. Give or take a little.

I was rather amazed at the item. Now she wants to get it authenticated and is talking about going to the Antique Road Show. Of course I suggested that as I am not a real expert on old things. just tracking them down.

Of course I was hoping for papers.

Expensive Things

I was talking with a friend about here expenses in where she lives. And I was amazed. She pays through the nose for rent. She also complained about her cost of car insurance in CA. She is over 40 with a clean driving record. She pays nearly 3x as much as I do.

Kind of a wierd thing. I am always amazed at how much things cost in CA.

Keeping It Safe

Well as the Swiss savings account era seems to be coming to an end, I am thinking we are going to find some fun info out in the next decade.

With all the talk of Nazi gold and other bad boys hiding money there, the EU us really trying to break up the Swiss accounts.

Now the people in the US are going to other areas to get the money. Of course that does seem better, as the bahams are much nicer and much closer.

In the Past

One of the great things I like about history is the looking back at historical events through games.


I enjoy having WWII simulations, my personal favorite is V For Victory. It is an older game, however it is a good turn based simulation.

The Battle

history as we know, is written by the victors. There seldom matters how much good one side is or is not. The old saying of he who dies with the most toys or St. Barts villa rentals wins.

I am already trying to analyze th RIAA losses in the courts.

I will not buy anything by the big labels. Recently I have got hooked on some indie arists. Let me tell you there is something for everyone out there. And buying indie work actually helps the artist and not the big labels.

I am still wanting to pack my luggage and to go somewhere really fun and cool.

Of course while think of Jamestown or some other revolutionary war site, my other half would rather go somewhere closer.

However, going somewhere else seems kinda boring.

A Small Part

I have been looking at the idea of fractional ownership in relation to businesses. Think about it for a moment.


With people being able to buy stocks in companies and receiving an ownership of a small portion of the company. This gives people a vested intrest in the company.

Well I hope that you avail yourself of the items and buy a small part of the company.

As an example most likely if you have a mutual fund somewhere, you own most of the big oil companies.

Hooch

One of the great things I have been amazed at is the role of coffee in histroy. Think about for a few minutes:

Civil War - Trading for Chickoary
WWI - Trading across lines
WWII - used to keep pilots awake
60s and 70s - help for an effective cultural revolution

Of course today the hippies buy their coffee as capresso from dealers.


Overall kinda funny.

Dawn South

After watching the Patriot again, I am ready to go down south and look at sites again. I would need to get a Hilton Head rental and look around there.

Spend some time seeing the historical sites and such.

I really need to go see some fun sites.

In any case I am ready for a good vaction with historical importance.

I am rather amazed at how much furniture is costing this days. I am in need of way to do a directbuy and save some money.

The current methodology of buying furniture really kinda sucks. I am not very happy with the way it works on the buying. I had a really hard time with finding the right amount of furniture.

Bags Are Wanting to Travel

I am wanting to go on vacation somewhere. However, the basic problem is that of air travel prices.

I guess it really does not matter if my luggage is packed and I am ready to head off to somewhere nice and fun.

I would really like to go to Israel. That is rather my dream vaction. However with the price of tickets . . . not to sure that is going to happen.

Bad Histroy Passions

I have to confess I love Rome.

If was looking at 'window treatments'. AKA as Window Shades or blinds or curtains.

There was some called Roman ventshades.

Not I was stunned. I have to confess I wanted to buy them ASAP. They are so cool looking. They pull up and bunch up. OF course I did not buy them. However, I wonder how much was I infulanced by the name of the product.

A Trip for fun

Well my wife, so it seems, is going to be going to the big party out in Scranton / Wilkes-Barre. By the way the Barre is not said as BAR it is Berry.

So she is going for the weekend and will be there for fun. I just hope she will be safe and not need an item out there for any the potential problem out there.

Of course I love going to the east coast and even just to walk through historical areas or even grave yards. So I am a little jealous.

Belgium

One of the neat stories is from WWI.

The rape of Belgium was going on. Some Belgium businessmen came together and asked the Germans for permission to buy food for their people. The Germans agreed.

America answered the call. Many bags of flour and such were sent. All the bags had to be returend to America.

What amazed me is that the Belgium people stitched them with messages or made pillows with the sacks.

If you get a chance there is a large collection of these former sacks in the Hoover Library.

McCain Wins

Hey now . . . I am thinking that this presidential election if going to make for some really awesome thesis for PHD canidates. THink about some of these situations that have gone on.

I am sure some of these canidates are going to break out in some sexy costumes or worse yet . . . well who knows what.


Well now that McCain has won the oddness will get even weirder.

I have been always been amazed at how did some things develop.

As an example one: maternity clothes. Who thought of making these things and why? I am not saying it is bad. How do you think of making them?

It is like baseball hats. How did those things develop. Why did they come to be.


Lastly it is time: Bush must be impeached or resign.

Actors and Opinions

I was reading a little b ut about the Baldwin brothers. They are quite the unique group. OF course most of do not understand politics for anything and are complete morons.

I will confess they are okay actors but that is where it ends for them. They really get odd. I am still waiting for thier promise to leave the US if Bush won the election.

Lighting the Past

History for the past 50 years are going to be an interesting writing. With all the documents that in 100 years so many documents will be made available. It is going to be like lighting some exterior lighting when you are parking. All of sudden we will understand things.

OF course it will be to late to punish the guilty of bad things. I am not talking about George Bush or Dick Cheney. SO do not jump to that.

Today while America slept the world changed. We started popping energy pills and find out that Fidel Castro has resinged.

Of course the embargo will keep going. Can Bush see that the world is changing? I do not think so. It would be nice. Bush is losing his grip on reality.

Undersea Cables

I wonder how we look at the undersea cutting of the fiber optic cables there are five undersea cables that were cut. I wonder who cut them. I can understand one cable but five.

Almost makes you wonder if the United State Military cut the cables. If they did this could be a prelude to an attack on Iran.

I wonder if the Bush wants to really do it.

A look at videos

The group Car Angel has been making videos to help kids. They have made most of the money through the use of car donation allowing you to have a write off on your taxes.

They have given away over 2.4 Million videos to kids to try to help them make sense.

Of course I am not a big fan of Christmas, for theological reasons. So I take many things with a grain of salt.

On The Clothes

I love reading about the great kings and queens of Europe and some of thier oddness and quirks. They did not have to wear wholesale fashion jewelry. One type of jewelry I always liked that was worn were small animals.

My favorite were some small white dogs called Bichone Firchse. Small and cute animals.

The women of the court in France would wear the dogs. Rather odd.

Inside the box

History is filled with all kinds of odd things. I have been thinking about this rebate from the government. Of course people need to spend the money really well. Perhaps on term life insurance quote, or something that is American made. This way the economy will get stimulated and not just be sent overseas.

I really see this money as a great benefit for China and other countries that the US has a trade imbalance with.

Sleep hard

In the past they did not have memory foam mattress and that would not be good. I have found that time the bed has changed. I was out looking at furniture.

What really amazed me was how the sofa changed over time. Growing up we used to have sleeper sofa that was really uncomfertable.

The times have changed. The new sleeper sofas are really nice and not even to much money.

Just as a dehumidifiers take water out of the air, our government is taking the water out of the life of America.

Recently, I was supposed to go to some of the great historical sites in America. I had camera, camecorde and camcorder batteries all ready to go.

I was quite thrilled. However, like most really cool things . . . I was unable to go. I have to confess that it really sucked.


While driving I passed several places, like Washington's winter quarters. Valley Forge. All I have to say is grrrr.
